The Challenge

This blog is designed to track my poker progress. More specifically it is my diary of a challenge from the FCP forums of turning a small amount of money (100-200) into 20K by the end of the summer through practicing proper bankroll management. While I know the ultimate goal will be difficult to attain (my more realistic goal will be 10K) my more immediate goals involve becoming more focused and serious about my game. I believe attacking this challenge and utilizing this blog will keep me focused on my play and in turn will provide some good monetary returns.

In the past I have run up small amounts of money into a decent return but bankroll management has gone out the window. Here this will not be the case. The process will be methodical and systematic.

My plan is to start with $165 spread across PokerStars and Full Tilt. The $165 will provide me with 50 buyins at the $3.30 level. I will be relying upon SNGs (mostly the 45 man SNGs on PokerStars) and MTTs to build my bankroll. I will only be buying into events in which I have 50 buyins. In some cases I may decide to play larger buyin tournaments if I am able to sattallite in using sattalites that are within my bank roll.

This will be a brand new start for me as I will be cashing out my excess funds, starting new a Poker Tracker database and spreadsheet and beginning with a very focused mental state. I hope to post updates here often and hopefully they will be passing on my success.

Me

Just a little about myself first as it seems to be the way to get things started. I am a 20 year old student originlly from Ottawa, Canada but I live in Hamilton, Canada 8 months of the year to attend school. I have just completed first year Commerce at McMaster University and I am hoping to eventually specialize in finance and stocks. In my first year at Mac I had a perfect GPA so I am hoping to keep that going for the next few years.

My occupation would be pro athlete. I am a cyclist currently riding for the Calyon/Litespeed Pro Cycling Team based out of Montreal, Canada. We are currently a second year pro team and we have been doing some of the biggest races in North America. The team consists of 9 riders, all Canadians, ranging in age from 20-34. Hopefully in the future the team continues to improve and grow.

On the side I listen to alot of music, mainly rap, hip hop and R&B. I also play some basketball, soccer, well basically any sport.

I have been playing poker for about 2 years now. For the first year it was only messing around with my friends at school for a few dollars. Over time my game has gotten more serious and in the past few months I have been focused on improving my game. I am currently a subscriber to Card Runners and I have also been working to track and analyze my stats through Poker Tracker, spreadsheets and the poker forums.
